Pediatric Therapy
-Flores Family
We were introduced to Legacy Therapy in the Spring of 2011. Our daughter was born with Spina Bifida, and we were told that our daughter wouldn't walk. We knew that she would need intense physical therapy. Legacy has been everything we could have wished for and more! The time and effort that the staff at Legacy given has gone above and beyond anything we could have imagined. Every member really makes you feel like you are part of the Legacy Family. The receptionists, the staff, and our daughters physical therapist really love and care for her as if she was their own daughter. The progress that our daughter has made reflects all of these things. With the help of Legacys wonderful staff, not only is our daughter walking with a walker, but she also reached this goal sooner than expected. We love our extended family at Legacy Therapy.

Our family has been bringing our son to Legacy for physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy for the past several months. Having multiple disabilities, both with physical and mental delays, our son is not the easiest client in which to tailor a plan of care. Even with this hurdle, the therapists and staff have been fabulous! They're always courteous, smiling, efficient and professional. Our whole family has been welcomed into our sons therapies and made an active part of his learning process. The therapists have all made tasks easy to work on at home, giving continuity to his goals. Our son has made great progress! I highly recommend Legacys Pediatric Therapy services to anyone with a child needing therapy of any kind.
Pediatric therapy aims to restore/enable typical midline posture for efficient self-mobility, enable vision, chest expansion for cardio pulmonary function, errect head posture for arousal, balance/fall prevention.
Delays in motor skill development are remediated through neuro-developmental facilitation, positioning, sensorimotor stimulation, equilibrium challenges - allowing the child to move similar to peers for exploration, play and community access.
We work to restore movement functions (rolling, sitting, walking, transfers...) following a traumatic injury or tumors.
Recovery from orthopedic issues: muscle strains, ligament sprains/tears/reconstruction, after immobilization in a cast, clubfeet.
Physical therapy will work with you and your preferred equipment vendor/supplier to obtain the appropriate adaptive equipment for your child - wheelchair, stander, gait trainers, walkers, shower/bath/toilet chair. Please bring any current equipment to an equipment evaluation appointment as this provides good information for recommendations.
The "occupation" of a child is playing and learning to interact with their environment. Interaction may take the form of using tools (zippers, buttons, crayons pencils scissors, spoons, etc.), or through the senses of the body (see, hear, touch, taste, smell, movement). Pediatric OT specializes in the development of fine motor skills (small skilled movements to manipulate items and tools), visual-motor skills (eye-hand coordination), upper body strength and control, sensory integration, and independence in self cares.
Occupational Therapy treatments focus on the following areas:
Occupational Therapy deals with both acute and chronic conditions.
Communication is the key to learning. We are dedicated to helping your child reach their maximum communication potential. Children of all ages and diagnoses may be outpatient therapy services. Our Speech-Language Pathologists provide evaluations and treat for speech, language and swallowing impairments including:
Treatment is provided in child friendly, private speech rooms by licensed and experienced speech language pathologist.
Respiratory Therapy
Pediatric respiratory therapy in the CORF would primarily consist of an initial pulmonary evaluation for those clients who present with pre-existing condition such as asthma or cystic fibrosis. The respiratory therapist will listen to breath sounds and so a pulse oximetry check to determine a baseline to compare with future evaluations should the need arise. If a client has an exacerbation of a pulmonary condition the respiratory therapist will intervene with whatever necessary treatments are required such as oxygen and/or bronchodilator therapy. Once the client is stabilized, it will be determined, in conjunction with the medical director, if the client can continue with therapy or would need to seek further medical treatment from their PCP.
Social Worker
Social work in the CORF setting would typically consist of evaluating the client's and the family's ongoing needs and whether or not they require further community resources. Usually the pediatric client has already accessed whatever resources are available so the social worker will determine if these resources are adequate to meet the psychosocial needs of the clients and their families.
One of the advantages of being treated in a CORF is the accessibility to a physician. Our center is overseen by a Medical Director who is responsible for the review of our clients treatment plans, care plan assessments, and utilization review.
The medical director plays a large part of keeping the therapists up to date on implementing new therapy procedures as well as education. Communication between our therapists and our Medical Director is a key influence to our success. A medical director also assists in working directly with the primary physicians of our patients which can develop a better comprehensive care plan for the patients.
The Legacy Center is a state of the art outpatient facility with a physicians oversight and highly specialized and experienced staff trained in the latest medical advancements to ensure the child's total development.
